Technology at Mission Dolores School

The Mission Dolores Computer Lab now has 18 Windows XP Dell Computers, half of which have flat-screened monitors. Recently we received a donation of two Dell laptops from Jonathan Cardella (Christopher, K) and a digital camera from alumni Vince Chambers (Class of 1978) for which we are deeply grateful.

We are especially grateful to Children's Council of San Francisco, Miranda Lux Foundation, and Intel for boosting our technology program by their generous donations of funds and/or equipment. Our volunteer consultant, Gustavo Benedicty of Intel Corporation, oversees our server operations, as well as enabling improvements to improve our efficiency on a limited budget.

All school computers have access to Internet, and students from K to 8 visit sites for curriculum-related activities, such as research or interactive skill practice in Language Arts and Math. Students also gain experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Primary and Intermediate grades use Magic Mouse's Flying Colors for art corresponding to their studies.

We hope to improve both our web-resource access, lesson-planning, and communication with parents by providing every teacher with a laptop computer. We also hope to acquire projectors for each classroom and raise funds to purchase more software for all academic levels.

Our school acquires some equipment from government funding specifically for software and/or hardware. Recently we have been able to update our computers through the generosity of DataTel Inc., an educational software company here in San Francisco.

We also recycle both ink cartridges and cell phones in exchange for "points" through Funding Factory. We are then able to exhange points for cash, which helps considerably in the daily maintenance of computers and printers.
