Summer, 2008

Dear First Grade Parents:

Below you will find a list of recommended reading for the summer months. These books are intended for you (or another adult) to read to your child.

We hope that you can read at least 20 books to your child during the summer vacation. We ask that at least 15 of these books come from the enclosed list and that you and your child choose an additional 5 books from the public library or your own home library. Reading to children at an early age encourages them to want to read on their own. It is important that they bring this enthusiasm to Grade One if they are to become successful readers!

We also ask that your child complete three reading journals on books you have read over the summer. The student is to write their name, the title of the book and 2-3 sentences about their favorite part of the story. On the back of the book report the student will illustrate a part of the story. Students can return these reports when they return to school in the fall. Working together we can help each one of our children become good readers!

Working together we can help each one of our children become good readers!

Sincerely,

Ms. Mily Lam
