Summer, 2008
Dear Families:
Below you will find a list
of recommended reading for the summer months. Students may use the Reading Journal form to keep track of summer
reading. We hope that your child can read often during the summer vacation.
We hope you will find time to read aloud to them as well.
All future third graders will be expected to complete two book reports. They can either use the Fiction Book Report, the Fiction Book Report Bingo, or the Fancy Folder. The Reading Journals and the two book reports will be due the first week of school in the fall.
In addition to keeping up with their reading skills, students need to keep up in math. The times tables are a crucial part of the third grade curriculum. You can prepare your child for a successful year by purchasing and practicing Multiplication flash cards. Learning those times tables will give your child an important head start. Also, if you have access to Interneet, visit the Resources page on the school website (www.k-8resources.com). If you click the Math tab, you will find many multiplication challenges. "Math Magician" is particularly recommended.
Working together, we can ensure that each student gets off to a strong start in third grade.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lillie Timoney
