Summer, 2008

Dear New Fourth Graders:

Have a refreshing, fun-filled summer that includes a time for reading & writing. Your are required to read at least three books - one book from each category - during your vacation. To accomplish this, you should read for at least 20 minutes daily.

The reading list books are available:

  • for free at the public library
  • at bookstores
  • used and at a reduced cost on www.amazon.com

After each reading session:

Fill out the Summer Reading Journal.

  • Include date.
  • Include time you started & stopped.
  • Tell which pages you read (example, pp. 33 - 72)
  • Write a short summary of what you read.
  • Comment on the pages you read.

After completing the book:

  • Design a cover that illustrates a favorite scene from the book.
  • On your cover, include your name, the author's name, and the book title.
  • Staple journal entries together inside the cover.

On our first day: Bring the 3 completed journal entries.

Grading: You will earn a Reading grade for completing these three Journals.

Extra credit may be earned for each additional book read with a completed reading journal.

Sincerely,

Mrs.Megan Bair
